Elden Ring Rune Level Calculator

Elden Ring rune level calculator: runes needed for every level from your current level to any target, plus rune items and the best starting class.

This calculator shows how many runes you need to go from your current level to any target level in Elden Ring, what every single level on the way costs, and how far the runes you carry will take you. It also adds up the Golden Runes and other rune items in your inventory, and checks which starting class reaches a planned build at the lowest level.

How to use the calculator

  1. Enter your current level and the level you want. The buttons set common targets, or the next 1 or 10 levels.
  2. Enter the runes you are holding. The calculator shows what is still missing and the highest level you can buy right now.
  3. Open Rune items in your inventory and enter the Golden Runes, Hero's Runes, Lord's Runes and Shadow Realm Runes you have saved. Their value is added to your runes held.
  4. In Plan a build, enter the stats you want to end up with. Every class gets the level that build needs, and Use copies it into the target level.

The level cost formula

The price of the next level depends only on the level you are at now (L):

  • x = (L + 81 − 92) × 0.02, and x counts as 0 while it is negative (levels 1 to 11)
  • Runes for L → L + 1 = (x + 0.1) × (L + 81)², rounded down, plus 1

The first level costs 673 runes, and prices rise slowly until the extra term starts at level 12: going from 11 to 12 costs 847 runes, but 12 to 13 costs 1,038. After that, each level costs noticeably more than the one before.

The calculator uses whole-number math, so it matches the community wiki's level table to the rune, including the total of 1,692,566,842 runes from level 1 to 713.

Rune costs at common levels

Level Cost of that level Total from level 1
50 14,535 262,472
100 60,265 1,997,878
125 99,180 3,984,881
150 151,295 7,112,459
200 302,625 18,253,715
300 846,185 72,956,252
713 8,879,348 1,692,566,842

"Cost of that level" means the runes to go up from the level just below it.

Shadow of the Erdtree and level costs

Shadow of the Erdtree did not change the formula or the level cap of 713. The DLC arrived with patch 1.12 in June 2024, and its patch notes list no change to level costs. Your extra strength in the DLC comes from Scadutree Blessing, which you raise with Scadutree Fragments instead of runes and which only works in the Realm of Shadow. The DLC did add new rune items, such as the Shadow Realm Runes and Marika's Rune, and you can count them in the items panel.

Which starting class is the most efficient?

Every class starts with a stat total equal to its level plus 79, so the price of a level is the same for everyone. What differs is how many levels a build needs: points a class puts into stats you never use are wasted, while high starting stats that match your build save levels.

The starting levels are Wretch 1, Bandit 5, Astrologer 6, Hero 7, Prophet 7, Warrior 8, Prisoner 9, Samurai 9, Vagabond 9 and Confessor 10. Enter your target stats in the planner to see which class gets there first.

Tips

  • Keep rune items in your inventory until you level up. Runes you carry drop where you die, and if you die again before picking them up they are lost. Items stay in your inventory.
  • You can carry at most 999,999,999 runes, so a run to the level cap means spending runes along the way.

Frequently asked questions

How many runes do you need to reach level 150 in Elden Ring?

You need 7,112,459 runes to go from level 1 to 150. From a level 9 class such as the Vagabond or Samurai it is 7,106,603 runes. The last step, from 149 to 150, costs 151,295 runes on its own.

How many runes does it take to reach max level 713?

It takes 1,692,566,842 runes from level 1, and the final level alone costs 8,879,348. That is more than the 999,999,999 runes you can hold at once, so you have to spend them as you go.

Did Shadow of the Erdtree change the cost of leveling up?

No. The DLC uses the same level formula and the same cap of 713 as the base game. Its own progression, Scadutree Blessing, uses Scadutree Fragments instead of runes and only applies in the Realm of Shadow.

Does my starting class change how many runes a level costs?

No. The price depends only on your current level, so going from 100 to 101 costs 61,591 runes for every class. Your class only changes how many levels a particular build needs.

Does New Game Plus make leveling more expensive?

No. Levels cost the same in every playthrough, so the calculator works for New Game Plus too.

How many runes are Golden Runes and Lord's Runes worth?

Golden Runes range from 200 runes for Golden Rune [1] to 10,000 for Golden Rune [13]. Hero's Runes give 15,000 to 35,000, a Lord's Rune gives 50,000, and Marika's Rune from Shadow of the Erdtree gives 80,000, the most of any rune item.
